Romeo and Juliet, created as a brand in 1875, is rooted in the tragedy of the English writer William Shakespeare. The brand achieved international renown in the early nineteenth century, after Don "Pepín" Fernández recognized the importance of rings as a factor of success. Winston Churchill was one of the most devoted smokers of Romeo and Juliet. His name was not only used in Habanos rings, but he gave name to the best known of the vitolas: the Churchill of Romeo and Juliet.
